The Boatyard restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

Boatyard restaurant review

The Boatyard as a venue is smart, yet the food and service are pretty bad and overpriced. It was good a few years ago, but seemed to go downhill every visit we made.

We have been a few times for special nights out, as it was in fact the place for my first date with my partner. I love the interior, which is modern and Continue reading The Boatyard restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

The Dining Room restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

The Dining Room prawn cocktail

The Dining Room prawn cocktail

The interior of the Dining Room is modern, contemporary and comfortable. We liked the layout and were seated at a nice table near the bar. The Manager was very friendly and took time to chat and the service was very good – they serve wine and food in a professional manner which we like.

The menu was inspiring enough and I opted for a Prawn & Crayfish with Mixed Salad & Mary Rose Sauce to start, which was a huge portion, but with a light and Continue reading The Dining Room restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

Simply Seafood restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

We went to Simply Seafood not too many months after it opened and we followed one of the waiters from San Farie Anne, Michael, there as we enjoyed his friendliness and he was good at his job.

The restaurant was small (they have since extended it into a covered outside area) but comfortable, with smart seating. Perhaps the tables were a little too close together though.

The menu was varied and had some lovely sounding dishes, so it took us a Continue reading Simply Seafood restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

Zabrano, Leigh on Sea, Essex

main meal and the restaurant zabranos leigh on sea essex

We went to Zabrano about three times, but the food and service got worse. The first meal was great – chicken Coq au vin I remember to be extremely good and their Sunday lunch was nice.Thereafter we tried two more times. The second meal we shared the 7 hours slow roasted shoulder of lamb. It was rich and tasty at the time, but for some reason we both got stomach upsets afterwards – although we did have prawns too. Undeterred, we went back again, as the dining area is actually very nice and the atmosphere is good. The falafel starter was inedible as it was so salty. The scallops were nice. The bouillabaisse had just too much cream in it and was very sickly, and my main and wine was spoilt due to the lingering salt in my mouth from the starter. We were polite about it but had a particularly rude waiter. It is first time I have been unable to leave a tip, due to the undeserving service. However, I would not put anyone off going to Zabrano, as the two meals we had previous were very nice, including the Sunday Lunch, and chefs/staff change a lot in restaurants sometimes.

Manolys Thai Restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

manolys thai seabass and mains

manolys thai seabass and mains

Manolys thai restaurant in Leigh on Sea has been around for many years, and I have been going there since I was young.  I have spent lots of time in Thailand, living with the locals, so I am quite fussy with thai food and its authenticity.  I have to say that Manolys is very authentic and very good food, consistently.  Over time, I have had seabass with coriander and chilli (awesome!), red, green and yellow curries, pad thai, rices, noodles, and vegetable dishes and they are all good!  If you love fish, you will love the seabass if they have it on the specials menu when you go!

My only complaint would be that it is a small restaurant and there is a draft Continue reading Manolys Thai Restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex

The interior of Café Rococo is an elegant setting and very comfortable, with a professional service and a lovely wine list.

Food is exquisite and a mix of France meets Britain with some unusual and tasty items on the menu.

My seabass plate was the nicest dish I have ever had with this kind of fish – absolutely lovely and I would highly recommend this restaurant for special nights out in Leigh on Sea.

Irmas Pizza

Irmas Pizza

Irmas in Leigh on Sea, Essex is one of our local favourites as it is always busy with a vibrant atmosphere nomatter what time of day or evening you visit, and the food is one of the most consistent of all the restaurants we know!

The main photo here shows the starters – Garlic bread, Garlic King Prawn and Verduras (roasted vegetables)

The garlic bread is a pizza base with garlic oil.  Garlic King Prawns are huge, in their shells, cooked in garlic oil with dried chillis, served with crusty bread – great for dipping!  Click More for more of this review…

Peggy Mount

Margaret Rose Mount (Peggy Mount) – born in Leigh on Sea, Essex – 2nd May 1916 – 13th November 2001.

She had an unhappy and poverty stricken childhood. Peggy and her sister were brought up by their mother, after her father died when she was tem. She later described her mother as “not a nice woman”. She never put her arms round me or gave me a kiss. She was always telling me that I was overweight and ugly. If you’re told that often enough, you become ugly, and no matter what other people say you believe it.” To no surprise she cut off contact with her family, not speaking to her sister for over 50 years.
