My Orangutan Campaign in the Leigh Times – July 2009

Leigh & Westcliff times Orangutan Campaign Sandra Dean July 2009

My local fortnightly newspaper, The Leigh & Westcliff Times, published my story on 30th June 2009.

Following my last publication locally, I was really pleased, as it highlights the palm oil situation that is harming the rainforests of Borneo & Sumatra and killing the Orangutans.  We must act soon, and force the Supermarkets & manufacturers to swap from unsustainable to sustainable palm oil.  The production of unsustainable palm oil is damaging our environment, and harming the people and wildlife of Borneo & Sumatra – Continue reading My Orangutan Campaign in the Leigh Times – July 2009

Cadbury and their use of Palm oil….

Cadbury and Palm oil

I had the comment below posted on my site this week, regarding Cadbury and their palm oil use – is it sustainable or unsustainable that they are using? I think this is useful to see – maybe you can get involved and contact them too or comment to this page or the page shown below! Below the comment, you will see my reply….. The Best of Friends – A short story of 1608 words

I wrote this story for a women’s magazine in mind before I knew more about the magazine fiction market, but decided it didn’t fit any of their criteria. It was originally called ‘Valentines Treat’ but I renamed it so that it wouldn’t be a ‘seasonal’ piece for February only…….

Harry beamed from ear to ear – so this is really it….. That was the sign. Continue reading The Best of Friends – A short story of 1608 words

The girl next door – A short story of 1554 words

My boyfriend told me of a real life story about a friend of his who lived next door to a woman who was killing herself with prescription drugs. This story came to me and I wrote it. It is a strange tale but at least it is different!

The girl next door – 1554 words
“Don’t worry, it really is no problem – he is adorable and no trouble at all.” Even if Mary had minded babysitting for her neighbour, she would not have known how to say something as her troubles were nothing compared to Sam’s. She

He was said to have had a heart attack and was rushed to hospital yesterday from his home in America. Continue reading Michael Jackson has died

It’s a cat’s life – A short story of 940 words

I saw a competition for the Cats Protection Charity – it was only a £5 donation to go in for it, but I only had two days to do it, so I made up this story – it could do with some work……

It’s a cat’s life – 940 words
I can smell it, so I run over ‘Oh Wow, Mummy has done my favourite today!’ I lick my lips as Mummy pets me. “You are gorgeous” says Mummy “so pretty and cute”

Riding the Waves – a short story of 148 words

There was a competition in MsLexia writing magazine, and it gave me the idea for this story which I wrote immediately – they said to write something along the lines of ‘Riding the Waves’ in up to 150 words.  It is very basic, but I thought I would upload it anyway…… Continue reading Riding the Waves – a short story of 148 words
