Compasses at Pattiswick interior
Whilst on an Essex road trip, we decided to try out one of the North Essex restaurants on our wish list, and chose the ‘Compasses at Pattiswick’. This really was a good choice and we will be back again! The restaurant and bars are spread across a large area, so you can choose where to eat depending on what mood you are in. The bar is cosy and smart, the restaurant nicely laid out with comfortable chairs and a couple of tables in the middle bar, where the shop is set up. We ate in there as the fire was roaring and the restaurant area was pretty busy.
For pre-starters there is a choice of some delicacies like garlic bread, ham, olives etc, and we asked them to do a small platter which was no problem at Continue reading The Compasses at Pattiswick, Essex, Restaurant Review

plaice with pea casserole pipe of port southend
This is a candle-lit Wine Bar with mahogany tables and sawdust covered floors. It is set our like a cellar and is very cosy – an unusual find in Southend on Sea. I wouldn’t say it is over comfortable, as the wooden seating is basic, but there are booth type seats for a little more privacy and it is cosy in a way.
The wine list there is extensive and to suit all tastes, but the service was mediocre, and unfortunately the food was not fabulous.
I had a potato and leek soup to start, which was rather good, and Michael Continue reading Pipe of Port Southend on sea, Essex restaurant review

The Bear Inn at Stock seafood starter
We have been to the Bear Inn in Stock three times now, and have really enjoyed it. In the winter, the interior is welcoming and cosy, with plenty of space to eat in the bar area or more formally in the restaurant. We prefer the bar, as we like the informal seating! In the summer, the outside area extends from alfresco on the patio, to well spaced bench seating around the large pond. It is so peaceful out there, with ducks mooching about and a nice ‘country feel’, even though it is so close to some major Essex Towns.
The food is traditional and very good with great choices of seasonal produce, Continue reading The Bear Inn (restaurant), Stock, Chelmsford, Essex

bread at the bell horndon on the hill essex
I just love the Bell Inn at Horndon on the Hill. It is warm, cosy and comfortable. They have a real fire in the bar in the Winter and you can eat in four different areas – the bar, the second bar area, the restaurant or upstairs. The food is wholesome in quality and quantity and they use only the best ingredients. Being meat eaters, we love the game pie when they have it, suet pudding with chicken and the terrines. They also have fish, vegetarian and all meats on offer and a wide range of choice of meal and accompaniments which are always beautifully presented. I have never had a bad meal there and the service is always very friendly – some staff have been there for years which is always a Continue reading The Bell Inn, Horndon on the Hill, Essex

cosy starters cafe rococo november 2008
The interior of Café Rococo is an elegant setting and very comfortable, with a professional service and a lovely wine list.
Food is exquisite and a mix of France meets Britain with some unusual and tasty items on the menu.
My seabass plate was the nicest dish I have ever had with this kind of fish – absolutely lovely and I would highly recommend this restaurant for special nights out in Leigh on Sea.
