This restaurant claims to be the ‘leading Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant in Essex’ and I have to agree that it is good. Since I have not been to every restaurant in Essex, I cannot say for sure, but it is our favourite right now (although we do change our minds) and the food and service is just great. We have been there many times and it is consistent.
The restaurant is modern, with comfortable high backed chairs, table clothes and quality wine glasses. It is very laid back and there is plenty of Continue reading Café Masala Indian Restaurant review, Thorpe Bay, Essex
This new contemporary Thai restaurant opened early 2010, so we tried it out. It has stiff competition with the longstanding Manolys restaurant up the road (which has had a refurbishment this year), but it has brought a fresh approach and it has worked.
The interior is smart, yet cosy and the chairs are really comfortable. It has a laid back feel, with plenty of space between the tables, and friendly, efficient staff. The extensive menu made it hard to choose our dishes, as there were some dishes that are not seen in other restaurants, which is great news. I spent 7 months in Thailand when I was younger, and have been waiting for a restaurant to serve some of the more unusual things like the Northern Continue reading Rak Chang Thai Restaurant review, Leigh on Sea
This diner opened in February 2010, so we quickly tried it out, keen to find a local diner. The restaurant has been fitted out really nicely, with booths and a great pink colour scheme and the waitresses have cute 1950’s uniforms, so it is in keeping with the theme. There is also some memorabilia dotted about and question and answer cards on each table about different celebrities from the 50’s.
The menu is typical diner style and we ordered a hotdog, plain burger, chips and jalapenos, but I have to say that it was disappointing. Maybe we have Continue reading Bobby Jo’s American Diner review, Southend on Sea
(I will add the photos soon…) This restaurant has been in Southend on Sea for years, yet I had never tried it before. On first impressions, the restaurant looked modern and comfortable, but it was not furnished, decorated or tidy to a high standard, but acceptable. The toilet was cold and left a bit to be desired.
The menu is very varied, and offers a huge range of Southern Indian dishes. Although we go to a lot of Indian restaurants, being fairly new to this Southern cuisine, we chose from seafood dishes, as this is what we know Continue reading Keralam South Indian restaurant review, Southend on Sea
I have now been to Bacchus (the new fine dining take on the old restaurants named Glasshouse and San Fairie Ann) for breakfast, Sunday lunches, dinner’s and Christmas Day, so I thought I should update this information, as we have had mixed experiences.
All meals were taken from the end November 2009 to mid January 2010.
Firstly, breakfast was of very good quality – sausage good and meaty, bacon Continue reading Bacchus restaurant review, Southend on Sea, Essex
 wings chinese restaurant southend essex
This is without doubt the best Chinese restaurant in the Southend on Sea area and around, as far as we are concerned. The interior is not plush, but comfortable and well spread out giving you plenty of space. Booths, tables for two and long tables ensure it accommodates from single people to larger groups.
Service is friendly and efficient, the menu is really varied, with lots of traditional Chinese dishes and the food is fabulous. The chef uses fresh produce to create a wide range of flavours, and there are ducks hanging in the window, which is always a good sign of a Chinese Continue reading Wings Chinese restaurant review, Southend on sea, Essex
 Compasses at Pattiswick interior
Whilst on an Essex road trip, we decided to try out one of the North Essex restaurants on our wish list, and chose the ‘Compasses at Pattiswick’. This really was a good choice and we will be back again! The restaurant and bars are spread across a large area, so you can choose where to eat depending on what mood you are in. The bar is cosy and smart, the restaurant nicely laid out with comfortable chairs and a couple of tables in the middle bar, where the shop is set up. We ate in there as the fire was roaring and the restaurant area was pretty busy.
For pre-starters there is a choice of some delicacies like garlic bread, ham, olives etc, and we asked them to do a small platter which was no problem at Continue reading The Compasses at Pattiswick, Essex, Restaurant Review
plaice with pea casserole pipe of port southend
This is a candle-lit Wine Bar with mahogany tables and sawdust covered floors. It is set our like a cellar and is very cosy – an unusual find in Southend on Sea. I wouldn’t say it is over comfortable, as the wooden seating is basic, but there are booth type seats for a little more privacy and it is cosy in a way.
The wine list there is extensive and to suit all tastes, but the service was mediocre, and unfortunately the food was not fabulous.
I had a potato and leek soup to start, which was rather good, and Michael Continue reading Pipe of Port Southend on sea, Essex restaurant review
 Hall Farm in Essex
My brother took me here for breakfast and I am glad he did. It was a sunny day so we sat outside with the views across the fields – very pleasant! It was great for my young nephew, as it is enclosed my fences, so he could run around and play. We had a late breakfast consisting of 2 egg, 2 bacon, 2 Continue reading Hall Farm Cafe, Stratford St Mary, Colchester, Essex
 Soya leigh salmon main course
This boasts oriental fusion food in contemporary surroundings, and it does deliver just that. We have only been the once so far, but really enjoyed it and will be back. They also say that they use fresh ingredients and use less MSG (Monosodium Glutamates), which is good, although we always ask for no Continue reading Soya Oriental Restaurant, Leigh on Sea, Essex
